Arranging a Baptism

We love baptisms and christenings here at St Mary's with Holy Apostles and we would love to celebrate with you and your family.

Christening and baptisms can happen at any age from small baby to older adult. It is never too young or too old to find out more.

To book : Please contact the church office and the vicar will be in touch.

Questions

What is the difference between Baptism and Christening?  We use both words. Baptism is the part where the child or adult becomes part of God's family  and the wider Christian community using water. Christening is the welcoming of the child or adult and, in days gone by, the giving of their name. Your service will have both.

Godparents? For a child under 8 or so, you will choose Godparents. Godparents are those people you want in your child's life who will help and guide them about faith and the Christian faith. They need to be christened themselves ( this can be arranged)

What if we aren't sure about the Christian faith? For those who would like to celebrate the birth of a child but who don’t want a baptism, we can also offer a service of Thanksgiving which provides an opportunity to give thanks to God and to pray for his help in bringing up a child.
