Encounter

Every Sunday at 4pm

Encounter is a community of people of all ages exploring what it means to follow Jesus as young people and families. We meet together on a Sunday afternoon at 4pm for a time of worship appropriate for all ages where everything is made accessible for those who are new to faith. As a part of our meetings together we also eat a meal together at 5pm.

If you and your family would like to explore more about faith and who Jesus is we would love to hear from you.

Our Sunday Gathering

The usual format for our Encounter Sunday gathering is an informal time of worship with people sat around tables (cafe style).

We do a variety of activities together to explore the Bible story and to help us to pray. We read from the Bible and explore the story through videos and we sing together using songs that have actions or sign language.

We sometimes have a discussion around tables for the adults while our DBS checked helpers do a different activity with the children. We also eat a meal together as this creates community and is a tangible sign of love and care. We are also beginning to experiment with how we should share in Holy Communion as a community. We are intending to do this every 6 weeks or so.

Encounter takes place in Parish House on Castle Road (the same building as the Rainbow Centre)

The Leaders

The ordained leaders of Encounter are Jake and Hannah Madin who work in partnership with the PCC and leadership of St Mary's with Holy Apostles. They lead Encounter in partnership with a team of lay leaders.

Multiply

We are a part of St Mary's with Holy Apostles Scarborough. We are also a part of Multiply - a project of the Diocese of York to start new Churches reaching young adults.
